
SOS Children's Village
Introduction
SOS Children’s Villages Malawi is a non-governmental child protection and development organization established in Malawi in 1991. Our vision is that every child belongs to a family and grows up with love, respect and security. Our mission is to build families for children in need, we help them shape their own futures, and we share in the development of their communities.
In pursuit of the vision and mission, we work in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and other partners to implement various projects focusing on child protection and development; entrepreneurship and vocational skills training for young people; livelihood improvement for vulnerable households, child and youth education, as well as advocacy in the areas of child rights and protection. Our programme coverage is country-wide, operating from Chikwawa, Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzimba and Mzuzu. To strengthen programme impact, SOS Children’s Villages Malawi intends to recruit a Programme Director, Advocacy and Communications Coordinator, Sponsorship Assistant and Protection, Gender and Inclusion Coordinator to support our programmes. Note that all positions are on full time, fixed term contracts for the period of 3 years renewable upon funding availability and performance.
Sponsorship Assistant – In Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Blantyre, Ngabu – Chikwawa.
Reporting to the Programme Director, The Sponsorship Assistant is designated to support all sponsorship work at programme level. The person will collaborate with the National Sponsorship Coordinator and is the primary source of information for sponsorship work.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
The Sponsorship Officer will ensure that the files of all children, families, young people, and program participants being supported are well updated. Working hand in hand with the social worker, s/he is responsible for organizing sponsorship work at the village level
- Collect information for child and village sponsorship letters, registration forms, departure notices, digital content, etc, from other staff (eg. program director, Alternative Care Coordinators, SOS mothers, social workers, teaching staff, etc.)
- Generate modules/stories, pictures, and videos from the program and send them to the National sponsorship coordinator for all sponsors giving them updates on the well-being of children, young people and families in the village and the community and how they are doing academically and to thank them for their continued support.
- Timely updating program participants information on all sponsorship systems (Dsapp and IGDam), making sure that all children have updated and signed consent forms by their legal guardians.
- Submit from time to time and when the need arises, reports to management on the new sponsorship-related developments at the program level.
Communication
- Good communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to design and create innovative, inspiring messages for sponsors and donors.
- Ability to convey complex issues in written communication with donors
Role qualifications, experience, skills
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advance Diploma in communication, journalism, social work, or other related sectors or equivalent experience.
- Experience in child-related programs, sponsorship programs, or NGO work is preferred
- Proficient in MS Office and Google Workspace
- Strong communication, interpersonal, team work and writing skills.
- Ability to work with donor/sponsorship software and databases
- Ability to use technology like computer, Digital camera – quality pictures and videos, Printer, Photocopier, Office equipment in general.
- Shows social competence and is an excellent networker.
