SCHOOL LIBRARIAN (PRIMARY) VACANCY (STARTING IN AUGUST 2025)

We are looking to appoint a Librarian to join our dynamic teaching team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Consideration will be given to applicants with relevant qualifications and experience in education, which will be reflected in the Librarian salary scale. They could include but are not exclusive to:
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Mathematics
- Fluent level of English, both spoken and written
- Certificate in Librarianship
- A diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferably related to working as a Librarian)
- The Librarian will also have passed an enhanced background/ Police check
- Previous experience working in a school library setting

In addition to the essential qualifications, the Librarian should be:
- Empathetic, compassionate, supportive and understanding of the pupils’ needs
- Well-presented, professional, punctual, trustworthy and ethical
- A positive and motivational colleague who is flexible and resourceful.
The Librarian will also need to have:
- An understanding of the content of the English National Curriculum and/or Cambridge Curriculum across the school
- Able to work collaboratively with academic staff and the Primary Leadership team
- The ability to demonstrate active listening skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, building positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents
- The ability to use the Google suite of applications to support student learning and to ensure alignment with school policies and protocols
- Knowledge of the AR Reading Reading Programme
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and implement library based learning opportunities for students from Pre-nursery to Year 6.
- Research information from various sources to support teaching & learning
- Prepare relevant library displays
- Handle loans and returns of library resources
- Administer reservation system of library resources
- Input and update the records of library users
- Edit and maintain the library records and data
- Upload data to the library system from internal & external sources.
- Order and process new library resources
- Repair/discard old library resources as necessary
- Re-shelve books daily and maintain the tidiness of the library
- Conduct annual stock check of library resources, discard/ donate the outdated/damaged items
- Produce library statistics & present reports to the SLT and Board when required
- Prepare overdue reminders & bills for staffs and students
- Supporting the use of technology in learning and developing pupils’ competence and independence in its use
- Uphold policies and procedures relating to child protection and data protection
- Supervising pupils before school, during break and after school in clubs (when appropriate) and on school trips
- Undertake other duties from time to time as required including: Stocktaking, cataloguing, preparing, ordering, issuing and maintaining equipment and materials
- Contributing to a minimum of one after school club or squad per week
- Coordinating the Scholastic Book orders with students, parents and the finance department
