Introduction
SOS Children’s Villages Malawi is a non-governmental child protection and development organization established in Malawi in 1991. Our vision is that every child belongs to a family and grows up with love, respect and security. Our mission is to build families for children in need, we help them shape their own futures, and we share in the development of their communities.
In pursuit of the vision and mission, we work in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and other partners to implement various projects focusing on child protection and development; entrepreneurship and vocational skills training for young people; livelihood improvement for vulnerable households, child and youth education, as well as advocacy in the areas of child rights and protection. Our programme coverage is country-wide, operating from Chikwawa, Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzimba and Mzuzu. To strengthen programme impact, SOS Children’s Villages Malawi intends to recruit a Programme Director, Advocacy and Communications Coordinator, Sponsorship Assistant and Protection, Gender and Inclusion Coordinator to support our programmes. Note that all positions are on full time, fixed term contracts for the period of 3 years renewable upon funding availability and performance.
Protection, Gender and Inclusion Coordinator – National Office
Position Purpose
The position aims to strengthen the programmes by building the understanding and technical capacity of staff in their pursuit of avoiding doing harm, mainstreaming, dignity, access, participation, and safety principles as well establishing safeguarding procedures and mechanisms. The position further aims to create a safe and inclusive environment supporting the enhancement of responses that help address protection needs, mitigating and preventing risks, and recognizing capacities and agency of affected communities.
Tasks & Responsibilities

- Act as the focal point and resource person on protection, gender and inclusion
- Provide technical advice on integrating protection, gender and inclusion into programmes.
Enhance internal awareness and capacity of staff in relation to protection, gender and inclusion matters - Disseminate knowledge, products, operational tools and guidelines on protection, gender and inclusion
Coordinate with national and regional internal and external networks - Strong ability to incorporate protection, gender and inclusion related systems and processes into operations and programmes, considering the context and low resource environments
- Providing input to ensure that protection and gender are mainstreamed in programmes throughout the project cycle
Role qualifications, experience, skills
- Minimum degree in social work or education or gender, and or other natural sciences such as social sciences and development studies
- At least 3-5 years of experience working with protection, gender and/or gender-based violence, including safeguarding with child protection and development international or local organizations.
- Demonstrated coordination or team management experience
- Experience in basic case management, including survivor-centered approach, referral and data protection
Demonstrate knowledge in safeguarding principles and mechanisms, like PSEA and Child
Safeguarding - Fluently spoken and written English, Chichewa and other local languages.
