Contract Term: Ending 30th September 2025 (renewable in line with budget period)
ASLM Background
The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is a Pan‐African professional body, working to advocate for the critical role and needs of laboratory medicine and networks throughout Africa. Africa is rapidly growing but faces major health challenges including epidemics of HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, and new priorities such as Ebola and other global health security threats. Strengthened laboratory capacity and surveillance in Africa are critical to overcoming the burden of disease and ensuring a healthy future for the continent. ASLM addresses these challenges by working collaboratively with governments, local and international organizations, implementing partners, and the private sector.
Purpose of the role
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Program Officer to support the development and implementation of laboratory programs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in laboratory operations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with laboratory staff, stakeholders, and partners. The Program Officer will primarily be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of ASLM project activities in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Program development and implementation: Support the development and implementation of laboratory programs, including planning, coordination, and evaluation.
- Laboratory operations: Provide technical expertise and support for laboratory operations, including equipment management, supply chain management, and quality assurance.
- Stakeholder engagement: Build and maintain relationships with laboratory staff, stakeholders, and partners to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Data management and analysis: Collect, analyze, and report data on laboratory program performance and outcomes.
- Capacity building: Provide training, mentorship and capacity-building support to laboratory staff to enhance their skills and knowledge in LQMS and accreditation.
Qualification
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., laboratory science, public health).
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in laboratory operations, program management, or a related field.
- Skills: Excellent communication, time management, mentorship, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, laboratory quality management systems, SLMTA/SLIPTA, report writing, ISO 15189, ISO 17025 and ISO 17011 accreditation and program development.
