Job Title: Junior Accountant

Department: Finance (1 Year Contract)

Job Summary

We are urgently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our finance team. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for various accounting tasks specific to the retail sector, including processing invoices, data entry, filing, issuing payment vouchers, managing petty cash, and handling financial transactions. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable experience in accounting and finance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Invoice Processing

o Review incoming invoices for accuracy and completeness.
o Code and enter invoices into the accounting system.
o Verify that all supporting documentation is attached to invoices.
o Ensure invoices are approved for payment by appropriate personnel.

• Data Capturing

o Accurately enter financial data into accounting software.
o Maintain organized and up-to-date records of financial transactions.
o Perform regular data reconciliations to ensure accuracy.

• Filing and Record Keeping

o Maintain a well-organized filing system for financial documents.
o Ensure all financial records are properly labeled and stored securely.
o Assist with the retrieval of financial records as needed for audits or nquiries.

• Payment Vouchers

o Prepare payment vouchers for approved invoices.
o Verify payment details and obtain necessary approvals.
o Maintain records of all payment vouchers issued.

• Petty Cash Management

o Replenish petty cash as needed.
o Maintain accurate records of petty cash transactions.
o Ensure that petty cash disbursements are properly documented and approved.

• Retail-Specific Financial Transactions

o Handle financial transactions related to retail sales and inventory.
o Reconcile sales reports with financial records.
o Assist in managing retail budgets and forecasts.

• General Accounting Support

o Assist the Accountant with various accounting tasks as required.
o Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures.
o Contribute to financial reporting and analysis as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in accounting or a finance role is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Xero or any similar accounting software will be considered an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting regulations and standards.
  • Certification or coursework in accounting (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is essential.
