HEAD OF OPERATIONS/SUPERVISOR

Morning Star Foods Company is an emerging food processing and packaging company in Lilongwe, engaged in processing, packaging and marketing locally produced foods, conserving their nutritive values and harnessing Malawi’s agriculture value-addition sector. A career opportunity has arisen for the position of Head of Operations/Supervisor.

Job purpose

The successful candidate will lead the food processing team, prepare production plans, and keep production records. This role also oversees quality assurance and occupational safety.

Key responsibilities:

• Production Oversight: monitor daily operations to ensure targets are met; schedule production runs and manage workflow.
• Quality Control and Food Safety: ensure products meet food safety regulations (Malawi Bureau of Standards); oversee sanitation procedures and cleanliness.
• Staff Supervision: train, assign, and evaluate production staff; enforce discipline, safety protocols, and company policies.
• Inventory and Supply Chain Coordination: monitor raw material and packaging inventory levels; coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to prevent shortages.
• Health and Safety Compliance: ensure a safe working environment; conduct regular safety audits and drills.
• Reporting and Documentation: maintain accurate production records, downtime reports, and quality logs; report operational issues to upper management.
• Process Improvement: identify and recommend efficiency improvements; implement lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.

Qualifications, Experience, Attributes, Skills and Knowledge

• Bachelor degree in food science or nutrition from an accredited institution
• At least 5 years relevant hands-on experience
• Self-motivated with excellent communication skills
• Team leader and team player
• Well organised, detail oriented and accurate
• Proficiency with computer applications
• Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
• Able to exemplify high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
• High level of honesty and integrity
