Volunteer Grant Writer – Support Empowerment in Malawi!

Echelon Dispute Finance is supporting Ufulu Wathu (Unregistered Charity), a newly established organization based in Kasungu, Central Region, Malawi, dedicated to promoting individual empowerment and poverty alleviation. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Volunteer Grant Writer to help us secure the funding needed to launch and grow our impactful programs, including Moo Meadows, a culinary training institution.

About Ufulu Wathu:

Ufulu Wathu is committed to empowering individuals across Malawi by enhancing their knowledge, skills, access to resources, and ability to exercise their rights. Our initial projects include:

  • Moo Meadows: A culinary training institution aimed at providing individuals with valuable skills for employment and entrepreneurship in the hospitality sector.
  • Ufulu Wathu Tennis Club: Promoting physical activity and community engagement.
  • Ufulu Wathu Carbon Credit Initiative: An ethical initiative to generate revenue for empowerment programs.
  • Ufulu Wathu Pixel Pirates (e-sports Empowerment): Exploring opportunities in the growing e-sports sector.
  • Ufulu Wathu Policy Discussion Channel: A platform for raising awareness and advocating for individual empowerment.

The Opportunity:

As a Volunteer Grant Writer, you will play a vital role in enabling Ufulu Wathu to achieve its mission. You will be responsible for researching grant opportunities and crafting compelling proposals to potential funders. This is a fantastic opportunity to leverage your writing and research skills to make a real difference in the lives of individuals in Malawi and gain valuable experience in supporting a grassroots organization. This role is supported by Echelon Dispute Finance, providing resources and guidance to Ufulu Wathu.

Responsibilities:

  • Research potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and other relevant sources.
  • Collaborate with the Ufulu Wathu team (including representatives from Echelon Dispute Finance) to understand program needs and develop strong narratives.
  • Write clear, concise, and persuasive grant proposals, including budgets and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure timely submission of grant applications.
  • Maintain organized records of grant applications and outcomes.
  • Assist with the development of other fundraising materials as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to understand and articulate complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, while maintaining effective communication.
  • Passion for poverty alleviation and individual empowerment in developing countries.
  • Experience in grant writing is highly desirable, but individuals with strong writing skills and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, online research).
  • Reliable internet access for communication and research.

Time Commitment:

We are flexible and can work with your availability. We anticipate a commitment of a range of hours per week on average, depending on project deadlines.
