Public Procurement & Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA)

The Public Procurement & Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) was established by an Act of Parliament to regulate the procurement and disposal of Public Assets in Malawi. PPDA mission is to provide a professional, efficient, and effective regulatory, monitoring and oversight function on all public procurement and disposal matters. To accomplish its mission, PPDA is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions.

Job Title : Financial Accountant
Grade: PPDA 7
Location : PPDA Offices, Lilongwe

Purpose of the Job

To prepare, develop and analyze key financial information to ensure that management makes well-informed decisions as well as taking the lead in terms of budget preparation and implementation monitoring.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Produce Trial Balance and periodic Accounts Reconciliation Statements
  2. Post Payment and Journal Vouchers in the accounting software (Sage 300) for monthly trial balance
  3. Post and confirm invoices in the accounting software
  4. Prepare reconciliations in all general ledger accounts e.g creditors reconciliation
  5. File and safeguard general ledger reconciliation statements for audit reviews
  6. Carry out reconciliation of all bank accounts and petty cash accounts
  7. Monitoring monthly cash flows and prepare replenishment requests
  8. Produce periodic Fixed Assets movement schedules and registers
  9. Prepare reports required by donors and credit organizations
  10. Sign vouchers and cheques
  11. Any other duties assigned from time to time

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy Bachelor’s Degree in either, Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting)
  • At least 3 years relevant experience in cost and financial accounting
  • Must be a registered member of ICAM

Requisite Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Self-starter, focused and attention to detail Ability to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of legislations and regulations on Public Finance management
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others
  • Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Integrity and honesty
