BACKGROUND ON ANAPA:

The purpose of the USAID-funded Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo (ANAPA) project is to prevent new HIV infections by ensuring equitable access to and use of health, HIV, and social services among children, adolescents, their families, and young women in Malawi. The ANAPA project is led by Project HOPE Namibia, with Project HOPE US, the Lilongwe Catholic Health Commission (LCHC), and the Association of Social Workers (ASWIM) in Malawi as sub-partners. Project HOPE US (PH-US) continues to provide targeted data and systems support focused on three critical areas: Data Management and Reporting, National Level Support, and Quality of Life-Saving Services and Sustainability. These efforts are designed to enhance clinical outcomes for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and children living with HIV (CLHIV).

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The driver provides driving service and performs maintenance for assigned vehicle, maintains all records for the vehicles, and performs administrative tasks as assigned. The driver is aware of, and adheres to, Project HOPE’s fleet and other relevant policies, procedures and practices

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Drive staff members on Project HOPE business travels.  Provides transportation to and from the airport, hotel, project field trips, and other locations as assigned.
  2. Understand and comply with relevant local road traffic laws, as well as Project HOPE’s fleet and other relevant policies and procedures.
  3. Ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, well maintained, repaired and maintained as per the regular maintenance schedule
  4. Ensure that the vehicle has all required registrations, licensing and inspections, and make sure necessary documentation is always kept in the vehicle.
  5. Demonstrate professional driving competence (driving at a safe speed, cautious about the surrounding people, cars, animals etc.), maintain good working relationships with all staff members and passengers.
  6. Demonstrate professional driving; maintain a neat and clean personal appearance. Provide timely and friendly support.
  7. According to established procedures, accurately record and maintain detailed record of trips including kilometers travelled, fuel consumed and cost, and dates of oil changes.
  8. Ensure that rules and regulations are followed in case of accidents and that required documentation is submitted.
  9. Ensure vehicles have sufficient amount of fuel and consume fuel optimally.
  10. Ensure the vehicle’s security and proper evening and weekend parking at office or other sites, as appropriate.
  11. Provide administrative and logistical assistance as assigned during project implementation.
  12. Maintain driver’s license and provide updated copy of license to immediate supervisor.    Report any violations/tickets (on or off-duty) or change in status.
  13. Ensure timely collection, prompt distribution, and dispatch of incoming and outgoing letters

Support any other relevant tasks as requested by the Operations Specialist.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Minimum of five years of driving experience in a similar organization.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid Defensive Driving Certificate
  • Must be willing to take eye exam before hire and every two years.
  • Previous experience performing minor repairs of vehicles is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated punctuality, attention to detail, patience, good humor and flexibility.
  • Ability to speak and written in English and the regional local language of assignment

Physical demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment.

  • Typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level.
  • Project HOPE employees work in the global health field and may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship”.
