Scope of services

Counsellor/Psychosocial support officer

Job Purpose:

Ensure provision of psychosocial support to affected persons including children within 5km from the center of the road on either side including schools and major trading centres.

Location: Rumphi

Qualification:

A minimum of a Bachelors degree obtained from an accredited institution with three years’ experience in a similar position.

Reports to: Coordinator

Responsibilities

1. Identify children withing the project area of influence who may be at risk, speak with children, families and carers to assess their risks. Investigate reported concerns and allegations and advise on child rights and protection issues.
2. In collaboration with partners coordinate all the awareness activities related to children’s rights issues; support implementing an efficient case management system/incident reporting and offer psycho-social support.
3. Counseling affected children and families as may be required and strengthening referral child
protection path ways.
4. To raise awareness and highlighting remedies as well as avenues of communication relating gender-based violence and child protection throughout the project implementation.
5. To liaise with local councils and other government agencies as well as the community on their responsibility on prevention of discrimination on gender related issues SEA and Child Protection
6. To improve awareness (education and publicity) among women of the employment opportunities o the M1 road rehabilitation project.
7. To educate and create awareness on the risk of gender discrimination including GBV and VAC, including child exploitation in form of labour, sexual abuse and any other forms of abuse and offer basic referral services on the same.
8. To assist survivors/victims of GBV and VAC to receive prompt and coordinated response from service providers according to the protocol and within professional practices.
9. To promote counselling and referral services to communities and the benefits of appropriate preventive measures as well as timely incident reporting.
10. To assist and refer affected individuals to access appropriate redress, judicial as well as health/psycho-social services including care and counselling.
