It focuses on providing school infrastructure to support government education strategies in countries ranked low on the Human Development Index. Let’s Build is without religious and political affiliation. In Malawi, Let’s Build was registered in 2021 as a company limited by guarantee and as an INGO with CONGOMA and NGO Regulatory Authority.

Let’s Build is looking for well qualified and experienced persons to work for the organization on the following positions:
Job Title: Construction Field Officers (4 positions)
Location for the positions: Dowa District
Contract Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 32 weeks
ROLE PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
The Construction Field Officer will be responsible for the inspection of the construction of classroom blocks at Community Day Secondary Schools to be constructed by Contractors. He/she will be providing oversight to the contractor’s team. Furthermore, the role holder will be responsible for monitoring compliance of relevant Government policies by Contractors. He/she is expected to be highly versatile and able to manage multiple tasks.
In the event of an emergency and depending on the work demands, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
- Conduct routine inspection of construction projects whilst ensuring that construction works are in line with international and national quality standards, align with the plans and specifications and are completed in a timely manner.
- Checking compliance with designs/drawings and specifications
- Conduct routine on-site materials testing whenever necessary.
- Ensure that the quality and quantity of construction materials used is as per set standards and as prescribed in the plans, detailed specifications, and BoQs.
- Collect qualitative and numerical data from sites regarding the construction works and provide the data in a timely manner to all concerned.
- Orient School Management Committees (SMCs) and provide oversight on their roles and responsibilities.
- Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with district partners, all relevant community and school committees and community leaders to ensure that all community related issues are handled professionally.
- Participate in meetings with district partners, School Authorities, community leaders, key community committees wherever necessary.
- Review and input into the site diary on all operations
- Attend site meetings.
- Ensure that all activities carried out by the Contractors do not put children at risk of abuse, harm, or exploitation.
- Ensure that all relevant health and safety procedures are being followed on site.
- Ensure compliance by himself and Contractors with relevant Let’s Build policies and procedures.
- Ensure communities are compliant with all Let’s Build and Government policies.
- Report writing.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in any construction related field and/or at least more than two (2) construction related certificates from a recognized institution.
- Valid Motorbike license and experience riding a Motorbike is an added advantage.
- Technical knowledge and skills of construction.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- At least three (3) years’ experience for the Diploma holder and five (5) years of experience for the certificates holder, in the construction industry.
- Proven experience in overseeing the construction of schools or similar construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience in inspecting works carried out by contractors.
- Experience in working with communities in rural areas.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners at community and district levels.
- Willingness to stay and work in difficult remote rural areas.
- Proven experience in managing contractor led construction works.
- Experience in working with construction works using cement blocks.
- Ability to collaborate in a small, proactive team, motivating colleagues and providing support and advice as necessary.
- Willingness and ability to change work practices and hours.
- Understanding of Let’s Build Vision and Mission and a commitment to its objectives.
- Good personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Commitment to and understanding of Let’s Build ’s aims, core values and principles.
- Ability to work within a multicultural setting.
