National Herbarium and Botanic Gardens of Malawi
The National Herbarium and Botanic Gardens of Malawi (NHBG) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions which has fallen vacant at our Head office in Zomba:
POST: Accountant
GRADE: NH 3
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director General
The Accountant heads the Finance Division of the NHBG and reports directly to the Director General. The position holder is responsible for providing sound financial advice and support to help Management and the Council make key decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should be in possession of Bachelors of Accountancy Degree or Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy or Finance) Degree with professional qualification (ACCA /CIMA / CPA / etc) plus at least two (2) years experience in the relevant field.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Controlling expenditure and cash flows.
b) Preparing budgets and final accounts.
c) Preparing periodic management accounts and variance analysis.
d) Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, relevant statutes, regulations, taxation laws and
employment laws.
e) Developing and managing systems for recording revenue.
f) Developing short and long term strategies with management team.
g) Advising on corporate risk, including safeguarding assets, risk avoidance and insurance.
h) Supporting organization’s decision making and investment appraisals.
i) Ability to handle donor funds and project accounts.
j) Knowledge in SAGE, VIP payroll, e-payments and public sector accounting.
k) Assist in developing, documenting and tracking NHBG’s Key Performance Indicators.
l) Ability to manage a large money portfolio.
