Position: School Accountant

Job Summary:

The School Accountant will be responsible for managing the school’s financial systems and ensuring compliance with internal controls and statutory requirements. This role is critical in supporting the school’s operations through effective budgeting, financial planning, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day financial transactions of the school.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, financial reports, and cash flow statements.
  • Maintain accurate records of income, expenditure, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely collection of school fees and proper receipting.
  • Process payroll and manage statutory deductions (PAYE, pension, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and assist with external audits.
  • Monitor procurement procedures and ensure accountability for all school resources.
  • Advise management on financial matters affecting the institution.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • A professional qualification such as PAEC, ACCA, or CIMA is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a school or NGO environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software and MS Office (especially Excel).
  • Demonstrated integrity, attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
