Project HOPE Namibia (PHN) is an indigenous regional African NGO founded in 2004 with technical expertise in infectious diseases, maternal and child health, and economic strengthening with a programmatic presence across the continent. PHN has over 20 years’ experience implementing public health programming in Africa with demonstrated capacity to implement PEPFAR-funded OVC & DREAMS projects in Namibia and Malawi. In Namibia, PHN was USAID’s lead partner for OVC and DREAMS programming since 2013 and 2018, respectively. PHN works in collaboration with local stakeholders, host government ministries, and other partners in countries of implementation to ensure implementation in accordance with the local context and with buy-in from the appropriate stakeholders.

PHN – MA (Project HOPE Namibia in Malawi), registered in Malawi in 2024, is currently implementing the Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo (ANAPA) project in Malawi-a five-year, $60 million initiative funded by PEPFAR/USAID previously and now under the USG’s Department of State (DoS). Initially designed to prevent new HIV infections by increasing uptake of health, HIV, and social services among children, adolescents, and their families, with a particular focus- the project shifted focus following the stop work order. ANAPA now prioritizes the provision of life saving HIV care and treatment services for vulnerable children. 

ANAPA has also received non-PEPFAR funding from DoS to implement nutrition interventions in seven ANAPA supported districts of Blantyre, Lilongwe, Machinga, Mangochi, Phalombe, Thyolo and Zomba from March -September 2026. The Nutrition program is aimed supporting the Government of Malawi in addressing the childhood nutrition challenges of stuntedness, wasting and micronutrients deficiencies and it will focus on focus on social and behaviour change interventions while strengthening local capacity for sustainable nutrition programming.

It is against this background that PHN-MA, seeks qualified Malawians to fill various positions for the ANAPA Activity as follows: –

1. Nutrition Program Specialist

Reporting to: OVC Technical Lead

Duty Station: Country Office – Blantyre

Nature of Contract : 6 Month Fixed-term

Number Required: 1

Supervises: None

Minimum Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Job Summary: The Nutrition Program Specialist will be coordinating the designing, implementation, and monitoring of community-based nutrition and WASH interventions in the ANAPA supported districts in Malawi. The Specialist role focuses on improving the nutritional status of children under five, especially during the first 1,000 days of life, children living with HIV (CLHIV), vulnerable households, and pregnant and lactating women. S/he will ensure evidence-based, HIV-sensitive, and community-driven approaches are integrated into program delivery, aligned with national priorities and local best practices. S/he will be working under the supervision of the Technical Lead for ANAPA, with dotted lines to the Implementation Lead.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: –

Coordination and Partnerships

  • Collaborate and coordinate with national and district level key stakeholders, including nutrition cluster partners, WASH cluster partners, health and nutrition service providers, other NGOs implementing nutrition interventions and MOH to leverage the resources.

  • Participate in national and district-level nutrition, WASH and HIV coordination meetings to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders.

Program Implementation

  • Overall responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of quality nutrition services at the assigned nutrition facilities and within the served communities.

  • Provide technical support on Infant and young children feeding practices (IYCF) to ensure provision of quality nutrition services.

  • Coordinate nutrition education sessions for caregivers, pregnant and lactating women, and families with CLHIV.

  • Integrate HIV-sensitive nutrition modules into community programs, emphasizing dietary diversity, ART adherence, and maternal nutrition.

  • Oversee growth monitoring and promotion activities, including procurement and distribution of supplies (scales, MUAC tapes, height measures) and food supplements.

  • Support micronutrient supplementation programs (Vitamin A, deworming, iron, folic acid) in collaboration with health authorities.

  • Promote household and community gardening initiatives to improve food security and dietary diversity.

  • Ensure staff are trained on and use national/ nutrition cluster guidelines/SOPs on provision of nutrition services, including IYCF.

  • Integrate WASH messaging and support rehabilitation of handwashing facilities to reduce disease burden.

  • Consolidate and provide technical guidance and support to implementing partners and MOH on all water, sanitation and hygiene promotion related issues, to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, sustainability and environmental soundness in their implementation.

  • Provide comprehensive and current data to inform WASH policy and programme development, planning, management and implementation.

Community Engagement & Capacity Building

  • Train and supervise community health workers to deliver tailored nutrition support through support groups for caregivers of CLHIV and vulnerable children and household visits.

  • Strengthen referral systems between nutrition, HIV care, maternal and child health, and social support services.

  • Collaborate with local government, health facilities, HIV clinics, and community leaders to ensure sustainability and transition to government-led implementation.

  • Conduct regular supportive supervision to identify capacity gaps and provide mentorship and couching.

Logistics and Resource Management

  • Support with procurement, management and distribution of WASH commodities and supplies, nutrition assessment equipment/tools.

Supporting Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Document training sessions conducted, educational materials delivered, and community engagement activities conducted.

  • Collect, analyze, and report program data disaggregated by HIV status, pregnancy/lactation status, and vulnerability.

  • Collaborate with ANAPA OVC -HIV Life-saving program to access program assessments data to help in measuring the program impact.

  • Prepare monthly progress reports, quarterly updates, and final program documentation and lessons learned, and recommendations.

  • Use community feedback to adapt interventions for greater effectiveness

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and required skills: –

  • Master’s degree in nursing, Nutrition, Public Health, or related field with 5 years’ experience and those with bachelor’s degree and more than 7 years’ experience might be considered.

  • Experience in nutrition program coordination, community health, Nursing or HIV-sensitive interventions and nutrition education

  • Strong knowledge of nutrition guidelines, or maternal, infant, and young child feeding practices, HIV nutrition needs, and food security strategies and public health practices.

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including CLHIV and pregnant/lactating women.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with government agencies, NGOs, diverse communities and stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in data collection, monitoring, and reporting.

2. Nutrition Program Officer (NPO)

Reporting to: Nutrition Program Specialist

Duty Station: Country Office – Blantyre

Nature of Contract : 6 Month Fixed-term

Job Summary: The Nutrition Program Officer (NPO) will support the designing, implementation, and monitoring of community-based nutrition interventions across nine ANAPA supported districts in Malawi. The role focuses on improving the nutritional status of children under five—particularly during the first 1,000 days of life—as well as children living with HIV (CLHIV), their households, and pregnant and lactating women. The NPO will coordinate with local health authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations to deliver evidence-based, HIV-sensitive, and culturally appropriate nutrition programs. This position requires strong technical expertise in maternal and child nutrition, program management, and community engagement to ensure sustainable impact and alignment with national health priorities. The NPO position will be based in Blantyre at Project HOPE country Office and will be reporting to the Nutrition and WASH Specialist.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: –

Program Implementation

  • Support the day-to-day implementation of quality nutrition services in the districts.

  • Lead community-based nutrition education sessions for caregivers, pregnant and lactating women, and HIV-affected households.

  • Oversee growth monitoring and promotion activities, ensuring timely follow-up for vulnerable children.

  • Coordinate micronutrient supplementation programs, including vitamin A, iron, folic acid, and therapeutic foods.

  • Promote household and community gardening initiatives to strengthen food security and dietary diversity.

  • Integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) messaging into nutrition programming.

HIV-Sensitive Case Management

  • Strengthen referral systems between nutrition, HIV care, maternal and child health, and social support services.

  • Train and support community health workers to identify and assist malnourished children, CLHIV, and vulnerable households.

  • Facilitate caregiver and support groups to promote shared learning and resilience.

Capacity Building

  • Train community health workers and local partners to deliver tailored nutrition interventions.

  • Develop and distribute culturally appropriate nutrition education materials in local languages.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Collect, analyze, and report program data disaggregated by HIV status, pregnancy/lactation, and vulnerability.

  • Conduct baseline and endline assessments to measure program impact.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and final reports highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Work closely with government departments, health facilities, HIV clinics, maternal health services, and community leaders.

  • Ensure smooth transition of program ownership to government structures for sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and required skills: –

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or Nutrition, or Public Health, or related field

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in maternal and child health, nutrition programming, preferably in HIV-sensitive contexts or OVC Programs.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of infant and young child feeding practices (IYCF), growth monitoring, and micronutrient supplementation and community management of acute malnutrition (CMAM)

  • Experience in community mobilization, training, and capacity building.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in English and local languages.

  • Strong data management and reporting skills.

  • Experience in working in a multicultural team and working with NGO

3. Assistant Nutrition Officer

Reporting to: Nutrition Program Officer

Duty Station: Blantyre, Lilongwe, Machinga, Mangochi, Phalombe, Thyolo and Zomba

Nature of Contract : 6 Month Fixed-term

Minimum Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Job Summary: Assistant Nutrition Officer (ANO) supports implementation of community-based nutrition programs for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) such as Children Living with HIV (CLHIV), HIV exposed Infants (HEI) and other vulnerable children under the age of 5 years and caregivers, including screening, referrals, and education. Provides counselling on healthy feeding practices, collects and reports nutrition data, and collaborates with Community Case Workers (CCWs) or community volunteers and health facility staff to strengthen nutrition services. The ANO will be closely working in collaboration with the ANAPA Social Welfare officer and Community Linkage Coordinators, and under the supervision of the Nutrition and WASH Specialist with dotted lines to the District Team Leader. The ANO will be based in ANAPA Supported districts Blantyre, Chikwawa, Lilongwe, Machinga, Mangochi, Mulanje, Phalombe, Thyolo and Zomba.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: –

Program Implementation Support

  • Support the implementation of nutrition activities for OVC and caregivers at community and household level.

  • Assist in identifying and screening OVC for malnutrition using approved nutrition assessment tools.

  • Support referral of malnourished children and caregivers to health facilities for appropriate treatment.

  • Assist in integrating nutrition education within OVC case management activities.

Nutrition Education and Counselling

  • Provide basic nutrition education and counselling to OVC caregivers and adolescents mums living with HIV.

  • Promote appropriate infant and young child feeding practices.

  • Support awareness activities on nutrition and healthy feeding practices for people living with HIV.

Monitoring and Data Collection

  • Collect and record nutrition-related data during community visits and outreach activities.

  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of beneficiaries receiving nutrition services.

  • Support preparation of weekly and monthly activity reports.

Community Engagement

  • Work with PHNAO, Child protection Workers (CPWs), Community Case Workers, District Surveillance and Control Assistants (DSCA), community volunteers, caregivers, and local leaders to promote nutrition interventions.

  • Identify, screen, and refer malnourished CLHIV or HEI from HIV-affected households to appropriate nutrition services.

  • Participate in community outreach activities, growth monitoring sessions, and nutrition campaigns.

  • Support linkage of OVC households to community nutrition services.

Capacity Building Support

  • Assist the Nutrition and WASH Specialist and Nutrition Program officer in organizing training sessions for community volunteers and caregivers.

  • Support mentorship of community workers on basic nutrition practices.

Coordination and Collaboration

  • Work closely with Child protection Workers, Community Case Workers, Facility and Community health workers and community volunteers.

  • Support coordination of nutrition activities with other components of the OVC program.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and required skills: –

  • Diploma in Nutrition, Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Public Health, Food Science, or related field.

  • At least 1–2 years of experience in community-based nutrition or health programs.

  • Experience working with OVC programs, HIV programs, or community health initiatives is an added advantage.

  • Experience working with the local communities

  • Understanding of community management of acute malnutrition

  • Computer skills knowledge and applications especially Ms Word and Excel

4. WASH Officer

Reporting to: Nutrition Specialist

Duty Station: Country Office – Blantyre

Nature of Contract : 6 Month Fixed-term

Number Required: 1

Supervises: None

Minimum Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: –

  • Lead and support WASH needs assessments for handwashing facilities in health centers, CBCCs, and households

  • Coordinate procurement and distribution of handwashing facilities to priority sites

  • Support the Ministry of Health (MoH) in cholera surveillance, case investigations, and water quality testing

  • Assist in implementation of Case Area Targeted Interventions (CATI) and establishment of Oral Rehydration Points

  • Support cholera case management activities, including supervision, mentorship, and death audits

  • Coordinate procurement and distribution of cholera response supplies (chlorine, PPE, etc.)

  • Strengthen coordination through support to PHEMC, DRRT, and review meetings

  • Facilitate printing and distribution of IEC materials on cholera and WASH

  • Support implementation of mass media campaigns for cholera prevention and awareness

  • Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and monitoring of all WASH-related activities

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and required skills: –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Water Engineering, or related field

  • At least 3 years’ experience in WASH programming, preferably in emergency or cholera response

  • Experience working with Ministry of Health structures and district-level coordination mechanisms

  • Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) and community-based WASH interventions

  • Experience in procurement and supply chain coordination is an added advantage

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and report writing skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency response settings
