POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role of the Medical Officer (MO) is to assist in the clinical management of patients and undertake clinical duties for the respective work areas under the supervision of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and other specialists. He will be involved in the care of the patients within all the ward, theatre and in the OPD Clinics. They will conduct physical examinations, take patient medical histories and interpret the results of diagnostic tests. They will perform surgical procedures under supervision.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Assist the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in operating room.
  2. Assume responsibility for patient care in accordance with the care model of the different hospital units (Ward, OPD and Theatre) , ensuring that clinical procedures are performed in accordance with policies and procedures.
  3. Review and evaluate patients both in outpatient and inpatient departments ensuring quality patient care via clinical assessment, admissions and development of management plans.
  4. Undertake clinical assessments of urgent and non-urgent patients within clinically appropriate timeframes and participate in ordering and interpretation of clinical investigations, ensuring communication of abnormal results.
  5. Participate in the development of discharge plans.
  6. Work collaboratively and respectfully with multi-disciplinary team members to achieve desired outcomes for patients through effective communication and attendance and participation in unit and site clinical meetings.
  7. Demonstrate a caring and empathetic approach towards patients at all times.
  8. Participate and contribute to improvement of policies, procedures and protocols and identify areas of improvement in clinical practice.
  9. Cover other medical department’s units as requested by the Medical Director.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor of Medicine  or Bachelor of Surgery (MB CHB or MBBS).
  2. Current and unrestricted medical license.
  3. Two (2) years of experience in hospital practice.

  5. Strong communication skills, especially with those of different cultures.

  1. Fluent in English and Chichewa.
