POST: Heavy Goods Driver (2) – Fire Engine Driver & 11 Ton Lorry
GRADE: M10
Reporting to: Fire Officer / Head Driver

DUTIES

a) Assist in setting up firefighting equipment and operate the fire engine system during firefighting.
b) Assist firefighters with rescue, first aid and other emergency tasks when not directly engaged with the vehicle.
c) Maintain logbooks for mileage, fuel usage and maintenance records.
d) Attend and participate in general drills, pump operation training and emergency response simulations.
e) Upholding the image of the fire service by driving courteously and professionally even during emergencies.
f) Driving fire engine truck in responding to emergency calls.
g) Ensuring that the vehicle is always clean, fuelled and ready for emergency response.
h) Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle (fuel, water levels, oil, brakes, tires, sirens, lights, and communication systems) with the crew on duty and report any defects, malfunctions to the duty officer available.
i) Driving defensively, especially under emergency conditions with sirens and lights activated for fire engine drive.

QUALIFICATION:

a) MSCE
b) Valid Driver’s Licence (Code C)
c) 5 years’ experience as a heavy duty driver (Those with prior experience as a fire engine driver will have an added advantage)
