The Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) is an ecumenical association of Church-owned facilities in Malawi and the Secretariat is the central coordination unit of the Association.  CHAM is the second largest provider of health services in Malawi with 194 Health Facilities and 11 Training Colleges which are located in all parts of the country. Most of the Health Facilities are situated in the remote and hard-to-reach areas. The objectives of CHAM are to facilitate, provide technical support, and develop health services among all member facilities in order to achieve equity in access to health care, patient care and in all matters, to act for the benefit of the people of Malawi.

CHAM Secretariat invites applications for the position of Finance Assistant as follows:

POSITION:                     FINANCE ASSISTANT

Grade:                            CS1

Department:                  Finance and Administration

Reports To:                    Finance Officer

Purpose of the Job:

To support the finance department and management in Finance Management services at CHAM.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  1. Processing payment vouchers in workflow, uploading payments on EFT including Taxes and other statutory obligations, timely.
  2. Disbursing funds through mobile money Wallets drawn on required vouchers.
  3. Assisting in checking that expenditures are in line with approved budgets.
  4. Assisting in verifying compliance with regulatory, funders and organizational financial procedures.
  5. Assisting the Finance Officer in ensuring all vouchers and accounting records are properly coded, complete, and filed both electronically and manually.
  6. Accounting for salary related remittances.
  7. Ensuring proper retirement of business advances is done at the end of every month.
  8. Receipting of funds received and banking of cash deposits
  9. Ensuring timely booking of suppliers’ invoices in the accounting system.
  10. Assisting with Bank reconciliation.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. PAEC Diploma/Diploma in Accounting
  2. Minimum of two years’ working experience in a similar position
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of Government accounting and accounting for donor funded projects
  4. Registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM)

Requisite Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  1. Good Planning and organisational skills
  2. Working knowledge of accounting packages
  3. Good interpersonal and communication skills
  4. High level of integrity and ability to meet deadlines
  5. Good team player
  6. Ability to multi task and work with minimum supervision
