In partnership with Impala Insights Inc., a Malawi-based research and advisory firm, we deliver integrated services in research, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), policy advisory, fundraising strategy, and implementation support. Together, we aim to redefine African-led development practice and serve as trusted partners to funders and changemakers.
Position Summary
The Business Development and Partnerships Intern will contribute to the organization’s growth and external engagement. The role involves supporting proposal design, donor and market research, fundraising strategy, and partnership management.
The position offers hands-on exposure to the business development cycle—from identifying opportunities and designing proposals to managing partner relationships and supporting communication with funders.
Key Responsibilities
Proposal Development
Support the development of concept notes, proposals, and grant applications to international donors and foundations.
Conduct desk research, market analysis, and due diligence to inform proposal design.
Contribute to fundraising strategies and support donor engagement materials.
Market and Donor Intelligence
Track donor priorities, funding forecasts, and calls for proposals.
Maintain databases of donor opportunities and funding pipelines.
Prepare internal reports and summaries of emerging trends and opportunities.
Partnership Development
Support outreach to NGOs, governments, and private sector organizations.
Contribute to partnership proposals, presentations, and documentation.
Maintain accurate records of partner and client engagement.
Communications and Knowledge Management
Draft reports, presentations, and other materials for business development purposes.
Support preparation of content for briefings, events, and external communications.
Assist with tracking and documentation of business development performance.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Development Studies, Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Relations, Public Policy, or a related field.
Exceptional research and analytical capabilities; proficiency in STATA and R or Python is highly desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management abilities.
Proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace; experience with CRM or donor databases (e.g., DevEx, Grants.gov) is an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Additional languages (French, Portuguese, Kiswahili, or Chichewa) are an advantage.
