OVERVIEW

Kamuzu Academy is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced educators for the position of Biology Teacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons in Biology at both IGCSE and A Level, in line with the Cambridge curriculum.

Kamuzu Academy is a selective, co-educational boarding school for students aged 11 to 18 years, following the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) curriculum. The Role

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Head of Department and in collaboration with other teachers in their department, implementing the strategic academic goals of the department, including successful delivery of the curriculum at all levels.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging, and well-structured lessons that cater to the needs and abilities of all students.
• Conduct and supervise practical laboratory sessions, ensuring safety, accuracy, and active student participation.
• Instil in students a spirit of scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and precision, encouraging them to apply theory through hands-on experimentation.
• Raise standards of attainment across all assigned year groups, with a strong commitment to maintaining results consistently above 90% A*–C grades at IGCSE and A Level.
• Contribute to a broad, balanced, and stimulating curriculum, working collaboratively with other departments to ensure learning remains exciting and relevant.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive schemes of work for all year groups taught.
• Create, organize, and utilize effective teaching and learning resources to enhance students’ understanding and enthusiasm for the subject.
• Set, mark, and provide feedback on prep (homework) regularly in line with school policy.
• Engage in continuous professional development to enhance classroom practice and contribute to whole-school improvement.
• Foster and promote positive attitudes to learning, encouraging self-discipline and academic curiosity among students.
• Recognize, reward, and celebrate student achievement and progress.
• Provide appropriate support and differentiation for students with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) to ensure inclusivity and equal access to learning.
• Stay informed about developments and innovations within Biology and science education more broadly.
• Contribute actively to the co-curricular programme and the wider life of Kamuzu Academy.


Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a closely related field, obtained from a recognized and reputable university.
• A recognized professional teaching qualification.
• At least three years’ experience teaching Biology at IGCSE and A Level.
• A proven record of academic success and innovative teaching methods.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to contributing to the wider school community.
• Be able to maintain good discipline within a caring atmosphere.
• Be committed to the all-round ethos of the school, and to support the school beyond the curriculum such as school events.
