VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following academic vacant positions under the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at its Natural Resources College and Bunda College campuses.
Staff Associate/ Assistant Lecturer/ Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor in Veterinary Medicine specializing in the following areas:
1. Small and Large Animal Medicine
2. Surgery and Anesthesiology
3. Pharmacology and Toxicology
4. Anatomy and Physiology
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a Master’s degree for Assistant Lecturer and PhD for Lecturer position and above specializing in areas as listed above.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • All interested candidates and those applying for the post of Staff Associate must have a first degree in Veterinary Medicine or any related field with at least a credit.
  • Those who are concluding their Master’s degree training may apply but must indicate progress towards the completion of the degree training and probable completion dates.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferably in teaching in a university and/or developing curricula in related fields.
  • A strong track record of research and publications in reputable journals.
  • Candidates applying for the post of Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor must show proof of publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. TEACHING AND LEARNING
  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Veterinary Medicine or respective specialization areas.
  • Prepare and update course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to engage students and enhance their learning experience.
  • Conduct lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials.
  • Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and projects.
B. CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
  • Design and revise curriculum to meet academic standards and industry needs.
  • Integrate current research, technology, and innovative practices into the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary courses and programs.
C. RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP
  • Conduct original research in the field of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Publish research findings in reputable academic journals and present at conferences.
  • Seek and secure research funding and grants.
  • Supervise student research projects, theses, and dissertations.
D. STUDENT MENTORSHIP
  • Provide academic advising and career guidance to students.
  • Mentor students in their academic and professional development.
  • Support students in their preparation for internships, job placements, and further studies.
E. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
  • Participate in community outreach and public engagement activities.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and public lectures.
F. QUALITY ASSURANCE
  • Participate in the assessment and improvement of teaching and learning practices.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional requirements.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from students and peers to enhance the quality of education.
G. RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
  • Develop and submit grant proposals for research and consultancy.
  • Manage research projects.
  • Conduct short courses.
H. ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
  • Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the planning and organization of departmental events and activities.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the relevant University Authorities.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT
All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance. Remuneration will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service applicable to staff on fixed-term contract.
