VACANCY

St Andrews Community Hospital is a non-profit making institution under the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi. The Hospital is a member of the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). It offers inpatient and outpatient services. St Andrews Community Hospital would like to recruit suitably qualified personnel to fill the following vacant position with immediate effect:

 

JOB POSITION:         HOSPITAL ACCOUNTANT (Grade I)
DURATION:ONE YEAR (Renewable upon job performance and availability of funds)
RESPONSIBLE TO:SENIOR HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR
JOB PURPOSE:To formulate and implement strategic Directions and plans for the Hospital finances.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from an accredited institution
  2. Those with professional qualifications in ACCA, CIMA, will have added advantage
  3. Must be registered with the professional body (ICAM)
  4. A minimum of 5 years working experience with a reputable and busy finance department. Those worked with a CHAM Hospital shall have added advantage and retired professionals are encouraged to apply.

 

Required knowledge, skills and attributes

  1. Excellent computer skills and Accounting package (QuickBooks)
  2. Ability to work under pressure and with minimum/no supervision
  3. Honest and trustworthy
  4. Ability to work to meet the datelines on assignments
  5. Team player

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Governance
  • He/she shall be a member of the Hospital’s management team supervising all staffs in finance department.  Coordinate day to day activities of the finance directorate
  • Assist in training financial management and accounting to hospital staff and members.
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time.

 

  1. Financial Management
  • Maintain the accounting systems and adopt and implement an appropriate expenditure monitoring tools and put finance control measures for the Hospital.
  • Prepare annual, bi-annual, quarter, and monthly accounts, claims, external and internal financial statements statistics and cost staements;
  • Ensure timely follow-up and responses of audit queries
  • Manage reconciliations of accounts and consolidate monthly accounts
  • Prepare annual budget and cash flow forecasts for the hospital and making sure that this is approved by the Board of Directors
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time.
